Re: T420 keeps powering off after drying from spilled tea

Hi Ami,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that you spilled tea on your Lenovo ThinkPad T420 and the system keeps shutting down on its own.

I would suggest you to perform Flee Power – remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect the AC Adapter and battery and try to turn ON the computer.

Abrupt shutdowns normally occur due to overheating issue as chances of dust getting accumulated are high. First of all, I would suggest you to ensure that air vents are not blocked and there is a proper air flow. Also, check the speeds at which the fan is spinning. Start using compatible cooling pads which will help in the flow of cool air into the underside vents of the laptop.

Please refer the hardware maintenance manual which will shows you how to take perform disassembly of the system and where the components are located.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Mithun.

Re: Add hard disk to T440P

Hi all,

I bought a T440P laptop with 256GB Solid State HDD. I am already out of space. how can add a secondary hard disk to the machine? I want this in addition to my existing drive. I am thinking of buying "HGST Travelstar 2.5-Inch 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache Internal Hard Drive".Will this fit in my laptop? and are there any instructions available to add it?

Thanks,

dk

Re: T430 W7Pro: Solution center message says I am missing driver "qknfd"

I'm getting an exclamation mark on the task bar that leads me to the Lenovo Solution Center, where I get the message noted in the subject line.

The buttons take me to the Device Manager.

I've browsed the Device Manager and looked at all of the listed devices and I do not see an error flag. What do I need to do to install the wayward driver or otherwise clear the error message?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Re: Is broken keyboard key covered by warranty?

Hello,

So as it turns out it's not that easy to get your keyboard fixed. I posted a message yesterday here and everyone was sure that it is covered by warranty and I can get a replacement keyboard. I've contacted the local Lenovo representatives and explained them my issue - A pin on the Z key is broken and the key constantly flips open when I type on the keyboard. The computer is 1 month old and used only on a desk. I haven't applied any pressure that can damage the keyboard, nor I dropped anything on it. It clearly is a defect. They told me that if it is a mechanical issue - e.g. broken pin - it is not covered by warranty so there's nothing I can do but to purchase a new keyboard. They also told me that for every issue I have to send the whole computer to the service. I don't have problem sending it if it is a motherboard or screen issue but I'm not sure it's normal to ask me to send it for such an issue related to a user replacable part. I am using this computer all day for work and I can't afford not to have it for more than a few hours.

I really require help on that from someone who perhaps works for Lenovo. I am ready to provide all the information needed including pictures, serial number, etc.

Thank you all in advance. I hope this gets resolved soon.

T540p with UltraDock USB Problems

I recently got this Thinkpad T540p, and all is well but the USB port on my dockingstation. I can't get them to work, the USB port on the pc works fine, but if I try to use one of the USB port on the dockingstation, it won't work. I'm ussing an Thinkpad Ultra Dock.

I'm running on Windows 7 Professional, service pack 1. I have tried to upgrade the Docks hardware as suggested in another thread, but that didn't do the trick.

Any ideas og suggestions is much appreciated.

Re: T540p/T440p+UltraDock+external display issues

@Mark_Lenovo,

have Ultra Dock (P/N: 40A20090EU) and a X240 (P/N: 20AM-S05C00). After weeks of waiting for a non-windows-solution I have installed temporarily windows7.

Applying the firmware patch with 'fwdphb01.exe' like described here does not work for me.

Error message from 'Prius Tool':

"Faild to find Synaptics MST DP hub IC"

I have to work with this notebook! So please find a solution for this annoying buggy firmware.

Re: T440s: Disk Password cannot be set in Bios

thecaptcrunch

I will send it to you in a bit.

The Lenovo crypto erase tool is only for ATA Security Erase.  If the drive is in OPAL or eDrive mode, then the ATA Security commands don't work.  It's the same reason why you can't set HDD password.

Re: T440s speaker noise

That's terrible. I hope they will do sth about it, because I wanna buy (or maybe I'm considering..) T440s during March.
And I can change my decision and buy sth cheaper or buy Macbook Pro or Air..

If this is only software issue, hopefully they will fix it, but if this is a hardware issue... (?)

Re: Went from T440s to T410 - Happier!

This is not a question. I just felt like sharing my story so that someone possibly could benefit from my experience.

I'm a long time Lenovo user, a fanboy even, been using T-series since when it was IBM. Having made due with an X220 at work and a MacBook Air 13" at home I thought I'd take the plunge and buy the T440s when it came out late last year (2013).

Said and done.

Already from the get go, upon recieving it I could tell that this was not good. The keyboard was bad, the new trackpad worse, and the screen was bleeding + I thought I could handle a 1920x1080 resolution but I couldn't. The resolution gaffe is mine and not anybody else's fault. There was also (still is) problems with wifi-connection dropping every hour or so. Unbelievably bad.

Also, an intagible but still, the build quality, the feel if you will, is really off. I've come to expect more from Lenovo. Also the "pioneering feeling" of owning a computer that is very extendable and also maintainable should you ever have a problem like dead pixels or faulty buttons on your keyboard, is now gone.

So, what did I do? Well, I thought back to what Lenovo I last appreciated toally and without a "Yes, I like it but....", and that's the T410. So I ordered a refurbished 1440x900 (yes, 16:10 rules!!!) and got it for 1/5th of the price of my T440s and I'm totally loving it. THIS is what a computer should feel like.

So, if you are about to purchase a new Lenovo. Think again. Go to a serious refurb dealer and get yourself a T410. I guess T420 works OK but I'm not a fan of the 16:9. Stay away from T430 and T440. I guess if you can stomach the keyboard of the T430 you at least still have the trackpad WITH the keys. Without them, as is the case on all new lenovos worth your time, you are really lost.

Hopefully this helps someone in chosing their system.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

PS. You might wonder what I've done with the T440s? Keeping it docked, using it with external keyboard, mouse, and screen as a desktop. Works OK.
