Re: Fingerprint Reader not working upon waking from sleep for windows login

This trial driver seems to have solved the issues on my W540 as well, and the FP reader is now working reliably.

I still have an issue that I was hoping this driver would solve: on my old W520 I could wake the computer with the FP Reader, and this was a very nice option, but this option is greyed out on the W540. Is it not possible to wake the W540 with the FP reader?

Thanks

Re: T440s doesn't wake up from sleep

Friends:

Issue: Unable to get out of sleep and unable to get monitor to work properly on dock.

I experienced same on my T440p.  Here is what worked for me:

Update bios.  Verify that startup memory is 512K within bios (hit F1 at startup and locate menu item under video)

Update Docking station driver.

Updated my external monitor driver.

Used a VGA cord from docking station (Pro 90W) and set default to VGA on my monitor.  Inconsitent results from other connectors otherwise.

Verified that my Windows operating system AND my installed drivers were consistent.  If your company, like mine, choose to remain with a Win 7 system, then it may get confusing.  My new T440p is labeled Win 8, so some folks may be doing harm with upgrades/updates.

These things were done with unknown results (they may have helped):

Updated fingerprint driver.  I am having no issues and use it daily.  I did turn off password protection when one would awaken the computer just to prevent an issue there.

Verified that I am using the correct power cable to my dock.  If you don't use the 90W adapter (for the 90W unit, for example) you will get odd outcomes.  Mine included not being able to have the monitor powered on while computer was on dock.

Set the monitor priority on the desktop, not just the FN-F7 hotkey.  With your montor hooked up and powered on, right click on the desktop, go to Grpahic options, output to, clone displays, Built-in + Digital.  Then the FN-F7, or just F7 depending upon if your FN lock key is on or off, works fine.  I was stupid, by the way...FN lock is toggled using Fn and Esc keys.  Old eyes.

Cheers.

T530i multiple external displays without dock

Hello all,

I'm having an issue trying to set up a T530i with Intel HD Graphics 400 with multiple external displays.  I have searched the forum and not found anything similar, it looks like most people are using docking stations with their configurations which I don't have.  Here is what I'm trying to set up.

External + External + Laptop

Currently, I am running a VGA splitter to the External displays.  This works as expected, replicating the display on both externals, as Windows only sees the connection as one external display.

My goal and endstate is to have the system recognize and operate as 3 seperate displays (extended desktop).

In my attempt to achieve this, I obtained a Mini Display Port to VGA converter, plugging one external display into each port (VGA and Mini Display port converted to VGA) the system now recognizes the a 3rd monitor, but it will not allow me to extend (or even activate it). I am only able to run 2 screens simultaneously.  Whenever I try to activate the 3rd display ("extend desktop to this display") when I hit apply, I get an error message stating "unable to save display settings".

Is there a solution to this where I will be able to run all 3 displays? The only thing I have not tried is using a splitter on the Mini Display port as I do not currently have access to one.

T440s w/ Lenovo SSD dying? multiple events: The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block.

I have a nearly new T440s with Lenovo-installed SSD - in scanning the event log this morning I found 20 events (all posted yesterday at the same time) that said:

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block.

I'm not sure how much to panic.

Per Device manager this drive was mfg. by Samsung and lists the ID string:

device SCSI\Disk&Ven_SAMSUNG&Prod_MZ7TE512HMHP-000\4&90e12bd&0&000000

From some earlier poking around that I did, although the drive is mfg. by Samsung the  Samsung SSD managment tool:  The latest version of the "Samsung Magician"  - V4.4 does not recognize the drive ....

(which is a Samsung PM851 - The tool does not SAY it supports the PM851 only the PM850 drives… not sure if this is the issue or not…)

http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/us/html/support/downloads.html

I can't find any similar tool for SSD maintenance / managment on the Lenovo website  :-(

(just firmware updater...)

SMART Status says:

"Uncorrectable Error Count"  and ECC Error rate are both in "FAIL" status

I'll likely open a support ticket unless one of the group here has a good suggestion?

Any thoughts appreciated!

Issue T540p Ultradock sound via HDMI & fwdphb03 not launching

My problem is that when I'm connected with the t540p to the ultradock that this sound comes from the local speakers instead of through the HDMI cable though the monitor and then through my external speaker which are way better.

In the Sound playback devices I have written: "High definietyion Audio Device Not plugged in". So I tried connecting directly via laptops mindpoit to the monitor and then it worked. But as soon as I connected it to the docking station which is also connected to the same monitor via DVI plug then it results as Not plugged in.

So I tried upgrading the dock station firmware by downloading the fwdphb03 latest firmware, and this does not launch despite being connected to the docking station and using an external monitor and properly plugged in.

Any ideas?!

Thanks

Re: low memory - close applications error messages

<>

Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Performance Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory>Change

Your C Drive, we assume Windows is installed there, should be set to "System Managed Size".  AKA, let Windows do it and leave it alone.
